Den Leaders and Parents,
As you know our Pack charity this year is the Joyful Child Foundation – in Memory of Samantha Runnion. It is dedicated to preventing crimes against children through programs that educate, empower and unite families and communities. For more information on this great organization please go to www.thejoyfulchild.org
We have scheduled a one hour Parent Information Meeting for Saturday, Feb. 18th at 3:00 pm at the St. Bonaventure Parish Hall. We hope that you can attend.
We have also scheduled two separate “BRAVE” workshops for Scouts and siblings. BRAVE is an acronym for:
- Be Brave- Be Safe
- Be Ready by planning ahead
- Be Aware of your surroundings
- Be Victorious and stand up for yourself
- Be Empowered to stop violence
The goal of the BRAVE Programs is to develop each child’s ability to reduce the risk of victimization by providing knowledge and skills about safety. Rest assured that the workshops are fun, educational and age appropriate. As an added bonus, your Scout’s participation in the “BRAVE” workshops will fulfill various requirements depending on his rank!
The first 90 minute BRAVE Workshop will be for children in grades K – 2. It will be held on Saturday, March 11th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm at the St. Bonaventure Parish Hall.
The second 90 minute BRAVE Workshop will be for children in grades 3 – 5. It will be held on Saturday, March 11th from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at the St. Bonaventure Parish Hall.
If you have two or more children that will be attending but they fall in different grade categories (ie. you have a 3rd grader and a 1stgrader) then both children can attend the same workshop but it needs to be with the grades K-2 group.
To register now for a BRAVE workshop simply go to www.thejoyfulchild.org/event.php Go to the calendar, find the event (March 11) and click to register. The “Private BRAVE Workshop Code” is 227BS. The link to the Parent Consent form is also there. The cost is $25 per child. If cost is an issue please let us know because The Joyful Child raises funds to ensure that safety education is available to as many children as possible.
If you register via the above link you may pay by Pay Pal (This is the preferred method of payment). Alternatively you may bring a check (made payable to “Joyful Child Foundation”) to the Jan. 30th or Feb. 13th Pack Meetings (Give checks to Kim Baer) or the Feb. 18thParent Information Meeting. Please provide a signed consent form (download here) along with your check.
Space is limited to 25 students per workshop so register today!
We hope that we can get significant participation from the Pack 227 families. Again, this is open to Scouts and siblings. We are happy to have the Joyful Foundation as our Pack charity for 2017 and know that these workshops will be very valuable to your children and you. Over the course of the year, money raised by our Pack for this charity will be used to hold workshops for other children whose parents may not be able to afford it.
